Egomaniacs 20 - Lethal Weapon 4 4
At its heart, this was one of the stinkiest games we've ever seen in the UFFL. I still think the worst one ever was that 5-5 tie a few years back, or that 6-3 TWC/42 matchup from '93 or whatever. Well, this one was a lot worse than it looks. If Daunte Culpepper hadn't scored 15 points the final would've been 5-4. If these two teams aren't towards the bottom of the rankings this week (I haven't figured them yet), they should be, after a laying an egg like this. Of course, given his history, Ted will probably score 50 next week, and as we all know too well there's no telling what Knaak will do. He'll be grumpy about it, though, I'm sure.

Hook-Ups 28 - Men O'War 19
This match-up of expansion teams actually turned out to be one of the better games of the week. Of course, Lamar Smith plays for Hook-Ups and Men O'War have Frank Wycheck at TE. Not much in this league more compelling than that. At least not this week. Lamar Smith scores 2 TD's, more than he's scored since 1943 or whenever it was he was last relevant. Frank Wycheck now will have something to show for his 2002 season, but James gets his first win anyway.

Iron Men 25 - Sweetness 24
Iron Men start the season 2-0, but it was a close one. If the Saints hadn't called off the dogs this one could have easily gone the other way. A big game by Curtis Conway leads Sweetness to the brink of 2-0, but leaves them outside the door. Morten Andersen is the surprising early season big gun for Iron Men. Iron Men gets another taste of expansion gumbo (whatever that means) next week with the Hook-Ups matchup that made GotW status. Meanwhile, Sweetness gets Renegade Rebels.

Munchen Mavericks 36 - MacBain's 69th Highlanders 22
Rod actually got points out of Derrick Alexander, but leaving Jay Fielder's 12 points on the bench means that he lost by 14 points instead of only losing by two. For Rod, that's as bad as if he'd actually lost a chance to win. The road to respectability is a long one. Of course, Mike Hollis scoring 21 points for the Mavs (including two +50 FG's) probably had something to do with their victory as well. Well, at least Rod can look back on his time on "Jeopardy" with fondness. He may not have won that day either, but at least he got to be on TV.

Outlaws 26 - Renegade Rebels 18
Outlaws still aren't entirely back to their usual form, but Renegade Rebels seem to be way off so it didn't matter. They were in one-man team mode this week, getting points from Donovan McNabb and not much else. Outlaws featured a slightly more focused attack, getting most of their points from two players instead of just one. Either way, this game wasn't quite as bad as that Ego travesty from above. They both have a chance to get well next week, Rebs getting Sweetness and Outlaws getting TWC. Then again, TWC is a dark horse so you never know what might happen.

Rage 35 - Bake-O's 15
Rage move to 2-0 on the young season as Bake-O's make a spectacular return to vintage form. Rage get a long run from Fred Taylor and a move to the UFFL scoring lead by Adam Vinatieri to win in a runaway. Good also to see Joe V. starting my cousin Tom at QB. I suspect that trip to Cape Cod hurt Dan--the absentee ownerism might have offended the players and left them feeling put-upon and unmotivated. Maybe he should have left Danny Kight in charge when he went on vacation. Nah, that was last week's joke. Never mind.

Sea Stags 33 - The Windmilling Chaos 23
Sea Stags score 30+ for the second week in a row, hearkening back to the early '90's glory days of Jerry Rice, Andre Rison and Sterling Sharpe. That's Sharpe before he got hurt, not after. The heroes in 2002 were Thomas Jones, and Sebastian Janikowski, who somehow managed to score 12 points without getting arrested for anything. Way to go Seabas! TWC continued their early-season trend of scoring decently but losing. Still a dark horse, though. Of course, Stags are 2-0, and have you noticed their logo? TWC may be a dark horse, but Sea Stags is a seahorse. Hm!
