1st Place: Lethal Weapon 4 - 35 pts 2nd Place: Renegade Rebels - 33 pts |
ROLE REVERSAL: The halfway point of the season finds all three of last season's divisional champions in last place in their divisions, and two of the last place teams in the league in 1997 leading the league in offense in 1998. Let's hear it for parity!!!! |
Egomaniacs 29 - Sea Stags 26 |
---|
Despite having Ricky Watters and Todd Peterson on bye, Ego manage to eke out a win and raise their league-best record to 6-1. Steve Young (19 big points this week) is on pace to break the single season UFFL scoring record (his own 140 pts for RR in 1994) and took over the lead in the scoring race from the idle Terrell Davis. Sea Stags got a big 65 yd TDR from Marshall Faulk, but the Vikings' reliance on the run this week cost SS big as Randy Moss goes scoreless, and Ego get the win on Robert Edwards' Monday Night TDR. |

Iron Men 21 - Solvent Drag 17 |
---|
Iron Men snap out of their funk with a big win over Solvent Drag, who continue their freefall after such an encouraging start. Brett Favre's big game carried the day for IM, who are 5-2 and firmly atop the RIOS Division. The Drag started an RB who was on bye (Harvey Williams) and got very little from anyone other than Al Del Greco. I just described at least 68% of Rod's games in the six and a half years of the league's history. |

Lethal Weapon 4 35 - Renegade Rebels 33 |
---|
LW4 continue to roll, winning their 5th game in a row and knocking the Rebs to 2-5. Who would've ever thought we'd see that? LW4 trails only Egomaniacs in the BELT divison, setting up a potential GOTW in Week 12. Big Games from Peyton Manning (!!!) and Gary Anderson led LW4 to the victory. They beat a Rebels team that finally got points from Kordell Stewart and an RB other than Barry Sanders, but got the chalk outline anyway. |

Munchen Mavericks 22 - Rage 20 |
---|
Rage lose their momentum and sink to the bottom of the RIOS as the Mavs win to move into a tie with Sea Stags atop SMRS. Steve McNair filled in capably for the idle John Elway, as Rage got 9 big points from new QB Doug Flutie and a strong game from Antonio Freeman. Rage are having a tough year, averaging more than 26 points a game, but only two wins to show for it. By contrast, the Mavs are averaging only 17.5 pts/game and are 4-3. As Joe V. himself might say, "This crazy game's just a crapshoot." He understands. |

Outlaws 25 - The Windmilling Chaos 11 |
---|
In a battle of cellar dwellers, Outlaws get the W behind a solid all-around team game. They raise their record to 3-4 and climb out of the RIOS cellar. TWC, on the other hand, lose in typical TWC 1998 fashion (Chris Chandler (who got hurt, it figures) + Ryan Longwell + no one else) and fall to 1-6, their worst record ever after seven games, and lead the Ricky Williams Sweepstakes. God knows they need a RB. Heck, I'm tempted to draft John Riggins next week...oh, wait, I haven't paid my tithe yet, I can't draft anyone. Oh well. |

Seattle Blur 24 - Bake-O's 7 |
---|
Seattle Blur climb back to .500 at 3-3-1 with a victory over the defending champions, who lose for the second week in a row to fall to 3-4 and find themselves ahead of only 1-6 TWC in BELT. These teams were both 10-3-1 last year. I hate this game. Anyway, Blur got a MONSTER game from Marvin Harrison, who, unlike Fred had suspected, had also scored in Wk 1 of this season. Still, he just increased his career point total by 400%. Not a bad day for the kid from Syracuse. He went to Syracuse, right? Props too, to Bake-O's K Chip Lohmiller, oops, sorry, I mean Morten Andersen, who was the only thing saving his team from a shutout. Don't worry Shim-man, Denver is off bye next week. |
