Week 16 Results

PLAY OF THE YEAR: Third down, 8 yards to go, San Francisco on the Denver nine yard line. Steve Young takes the snap, drops back, looks right, then turns back left and fires a swing pass out to Terry Kirby in the flats. Kirby makes the catch, squares up, and moves towards the end zone. He makes a couple of nifty moves, but is tripped up and comes down on the two, just a half-yard shy of the first down. Gary Anderson kicks the field goal to give SF a 10 point lead early in the fourth quarter. We didn't know it then, but that would be the last serious threat by the Niners on the end zone in the game...the Niners' offense, that is. The SF D would score two second half TD's, depriving their offense of scoring opportunities and putting Renegade Rebels and Bake-O's into the Fantasy Bowl. Had Kirby taken that swing pass in for a score, both The Windmilling Chaos (who had Kirby) and Liquid Ham (Steve Young) would have won their games. As it happened, he (and they) fell just short in one of the most dramatic weekends in UFFL history. Truly, playoffs like they oughta be.

Bake-O's 26 - The Windmilling Chaos 25
TWC's luck finally runs out. Bake-O's RB Terrell Davis -- hurt. Bake-O's RB Jason Elam -- missing field goals. TWC TE Ken Dilger and his 3 TDC's -- on the bench. TWC K Cary Blanchard and his 14 points -- on the bench. Who knew the Colts were going to come alive? Bake-O's finally beat TWC, getting revenge for the one point TWC win in Week 14, thanks in part to an inspired decision by Coach Shim, inserting Mark Bruener at TE. Bruener scored a late TD thanks to a classic blunder by Drew Bledsoe (he's my FFAL QB -- is my karma out of whack or what?) and contributed valuable points to the BO cause. So, Bake-O's head for the Fantasy Bowl to defend their championship against the league's most successful franchise, and TWC heads to the Consolation Bowl for a rematch of Fantasy Bowl I.

Renegade Rebels 24 - Liquid Ham 24
Renegade Rebels advance to their fourth Fantasy Bowl as they escape with their lives when Steve Young can do no more than one TDP on Monday Night. The tie advances the Rebs due to their higher seeding in the playoffs (Gosh, Joe, if Barry Sanders hadn't scored 27 points the week you played RR in the regular season, you'd've beaten him then and would have been the #2 seed, and we'd be on the way to a TWC vs. LH Fantasy Bowl, all other results being the same, because LH would have beaten the Blur (based on Fred's usual starters) 24-19 this week and TWC would have beaten RR 25-24. But I digress.). The late insertion of Derrick Alexander into the Pork line-up brought about the tie, but then again, neither George nor Sanders scored for the Rebs. Joe luck and Sam luck were the same this week; two yards short. Sigh.
