Egomaniacs 29 - Iron Men 5 |
---|
Egomaniacs climb out of the cellar for good behind a strong showing by their so-called "Varsity" backfield, playing for the first time in weeks. The bottom fell out for Iron Men as Ralph Malph, the leading FG man in the league, could tragically, ironically, only muster 2 XP's. Nothing else seemed to work for them, and they can just wait until next year, plotting all the while... |

Lethal Weapon 4 24 - Sea Stags 14 |

Karl said it best..."I still can't figure out why my team is middle of the pack...Must be the fact that I cannot select starters worth beans." Andre Rison, Marcus Allen, and Eric Metcalf, worth 30 points between them, languished on the bench as Karl's guys Staggered to their fifth consecutive loss to end the season. A suggestion for next year, Karl: draft John Riggins (Sorry, I just couldn't help it...) |

Liquid Ham 20 - Necrotic Slough 15 |
---|
Some pre-playoff muscle flexing for the Pork and just another pothole in the road of life for the Slough, who certainly lived up to their name this year, eh, Rod? Joe's guys won their fifth consecutive game, and are red hot as they prepare to meet the Mavs next week in Round One action. For the Slough, it's Miller time. Thank God for Al Del Greco, Rod. He scored nearly half of your points this year and kept you at least semi-respectable. |

Munchen Mavericks 53 - Outlaws 12 |
---|
Munchen Mavericks munch on the Outlaws, qualifying for the playoffs via the Week 14 Method. Amazingly, their score could have been higher. Mayes and Early didn't score, and Big Ed McCaffery was on the bench. Monster games from Jerome Bettis and UFFL Scoring Champ Mike Hollis led the way. Next stop, Porkville! The Outlaws go an eight straight game with no win (they had a tie last week) and clinch the Number One draft pick for '98 -- but wouldn't you know it? They've already traded it to Renegade Rebels! For James Stewart! WHERE'S THE LOVE?!?! Oh, wait, that's Jason Hanson... |

Renegade Rebels 31 - Seattle Blur 31 |
---|
Speaking of Jason Hanson... The Mavs' game outscored this one, but this one gets the Mel Gray game as a big game that actually lived up to the hype. The Rebels got all 31 points from two Lions on Thursday, then sat scoreless on Sunday and watched as the Blur, who scored 30+ for the seventh game in a row, crept closer and closer. Sorry, Fred, a tie is close, but it wasn't close enough. RR wins the division via the tiebreaker and gets next week off, while the Blur have to face Bake-O's. |

The Windmilling Chaos 18 - Bake-O's 17 |
---|
In a heartfelt gesture, Green Bay coach Mike Holmgren, $5 of my money burning a hole in his pocket, told Dorsey Levens, "Score this one last TD so Longwell can get that last XP so TWC can win their division!" And he did. And it was good. In a remarkable comeback, TWC not only win the division, not only get the #1 seed and the bye, but the D, the amazing TWC D, set the UFFL record for fewest points allowed in a season. The old record? 204, 1992, by TWC. It's like the Steel Curtain. Anyway, don't cry for Bake-O's. They're in the playoffs too and get the Blur nex...uh...maybe you can cry for them...sorry, Dan. |
