Bake-O's 30 - MacBain's 69th Highlanders 27 |

The Stoyo luck runs out. Al the Greek would have brought a tie, but Pete's world comes crashing down around him in St. Louis. Rod is sad. He's not playing his drum quite so loudly this week. Dan, on the other hand, is happy. He's still in the TOBE cellar, but he won a game, Terrell Davis looked good, and Shannon Sharpe scored two TD's. It was like old times for Bake-O's, and we got to see one last glimpse of what it was like in '97 and '98 when they ruled the league. It was neat, sorta like the 49ers making the playoffs a couple of years back - you knew they were on their last legs, but it was fun to watch them breathe their last. Hey Dan, Steve Young is on ESPN now being made fun of by Stuart Scott because he had concussions. What's your next career choice going to be? Then again, maybe he's already on ESPN - we don't know who it is dressed up as "The Answer" in those stupid "2 Minute Drill" adverts, do we? ("191 RBI's, 191 RBI's, 191 RBI's!") Who's the Einstein that came up with those ads, huh? Geez. The only commercials I hate more are those stupid Holiday Inn commercials where the guy is living with his parents and they are always laughing at him because he wants a data port or something. Why aren't they laughing at Grandma, huh? She's mooching off of them just as much as the guy is. Hmph. Anyway, I'll bet Dan is "The Answer". |

Egomaniacs 31 - Rage 21 |

Who shot J.R.? No really, this guy had a better week than Larry Hagman's had in years. Where did he come from and why did Knaak start him all of a sudden? Maybe Bill had something to do with Ricky Watters getting injured in Seattle. Hmmmm... Differences in similarity: both these teams are 5-5. Rage lose but hang on to first place in LRMS. Ego lose, but they are in third place in TOBE because they lost to TWC earlier in the year. However, in the UFFL rankings, EGO outrank TWC this week because of Rage's presence in the tiebreaker. Sorta warms your heart, doesn't it? I know Joe was hatin' life when Baltimore finally started scoring touchdowns and all of Stover's field goal opportunities turned into TDC's for Shim. Meanwhile, Joe (Freakin') Nedney continued his hot season down in Carolina. NEWS REPORT: Kris Heppner was cut in Washington. Good thing you got rid of him, Bill. One last question: what's up with Shawn King and 7 TDP's the last two weeks? Oh yeah, he played Atlanta and the Vikings. Never mind. |

Iron Men 22 - Sea Stags 15 |

Is this Fantasy Football or an episode of ER? Marshall Faulk and Sebastian Janikowski turn up lame just as gametime comes to call, Karl loses at least 12-15 points because of it, and Iron Men move out of the cellar of both SMIR and the UFFL for the first time all year with their third win in a row. Karl, I just can't believe what happened with your guys. I was thinking later, it's a good thing you didn't start Bledsoe at QB... Maybe Knaak got to these guys too. Bill Knaak, injury causer. Hey, if Shim can be "The Answer", Knaak can go around putting the juju on other people's players. Work with me here, it's whimisical. I hope. Even with the injuries, it was still an interesting game, as it took a Favre resurgence and a "where did he come from?" performance from Amani (It's Not A) Toomer for the Men of Steel to get the win. They've won three in a row, yes, but they're not scoring a lot of points. They're winning in traditional TWC fashion and I can tell you, it's tough to maintain. They get Outlaws this week. That will tell a tale. A really gruesome tale, probably, but a tale nonetheless. |

Lethal Weapon 4 24 - Seattle Blur 24 |

Poor Ted. Last week he had the Jackie Harris replay thing, this week a bad snap on the Anderson FG at the end of regulation and an incredible catch by Antonio Freeman do him in. A stirring comeback, though (let's be honest here, and call it the Monday Night Comeback of the Week®), gets him a tie with Seattle Blur, which is sort of a win, I guess. But not for Fred. He loses and falls back to Number Two in the league despite leading his division by a game and a half. His kicker didn't score. Do you realize that if Detroit had kicked the extra point instead of going for two Fred would have won? I'll bet Fred realizes it. Lamar Smith? Great game. Trent Green? Not bad in the loss. Ted got a solid game all around. Just one last little FG would have made him happy, but alas, he now has two ties. Incidentally, LW4 now has more ties lifetime, five, than any other team in the UFFL. I can just see Ted now, chasing Dan down the street, Shim shuffling along, wide eyed, muttering, "5 ties, 5 ties, 5 ties!" |

Outlaws 45 - Renegade Rebels 26 |

It wasn't 34-30, but it was a classic shoot-out, as I predicted. Outlaws scored a whole lot of points again. They've now won five Mel games in ten weeks, including three of the last four in which they scored more than 40 points. Dare I say it, they're a machine, averaging 34 points a game. They have to be, though; they're giving up over 27 points a game. If Iron Men is winning in TWC fashion, Outlaws are the Rams, scoring more than enough, but just barely. This week, a big game from Gannon and a return to TD health by Jay Riemersma were highlights as Outlaws regained the Number 1 Ranking upon SB's tie. Meanwhile, the Rebs lost a chance to close on the Blur. Not Bill's fault, though. He put a good team out there. They just couldn't outscore the Outlaws. By the way, who the heck is Terry Hardy? (I want to say that Shim probably knows, but I think I've already run that "The Answer" joke way down deep into the ground so I won't say it.) |

The Windmilling Chaos 23 - Munchen Mavericks 7 |
---|
Going into Monday Night, the score of this one was a stinky 7-6 Mavs, with Griese-to-McCaffery accounting for 12 of those 13 points. Then, Ahman Green scored twice, Longwell did his thing, and all was well in TWCville. TWC moves to 5-5 and manages to stay ahead of Egomaniacs in TOBE. The second round of divisional play in that division is going to be so huge. Meanwhile, Munchen Mavericks got nothin'. The Tennessee-Pittsburgh turnip wrestling exhibition really hurt, as did this amazing stat - Rich Gannon threw four TDP's, but none were to Tim Brown. What up wit dat? Dan? (Sorry.) Anyway, the Mavs have now lost four games in a row and it's not getting any easier for them next week with Egomaniacs on the horizon. They are at the bottom of the UFFL Rankings list, and don't look to be getting out any time soon. Unless they win a game or two and Rod starts losing again. Which could happen. This is just a crapshoot, you know. I know. Fred told me so in an e-mail last week, and we all know how much Fred knows about Fantasy Football... :-) |
