Egomaniacs 24 - Iron Men 19
Egomaniacs win their third game in a row but stay a spot behind TWC in the TOBE standings due to an early-season loss. Daunte Culpepper and Joe Nedney led the way with nine points each. Iron Men continue to sputter along, falling to 1-6. They do score more than their average though, so that's a moral victory. Like when the Falcons made the Rams punt. Hey, maybe we should have punters in the league...which reminds me...I propose a rules change to bring long snappers and FG holders into the league - FG's would no longer score 3 points for a K - rather, 1 pt each for a holder, snapper, and kicker. If we can do TDC's the way we do (not that there's anything wrong with that...), why not this? Of course, if we did, Rod would have to drop out of the league. ;-) (Sorry to Bill and Brian for bringing that into your recap...it just came to mind so I wrote it...stream-of-conciousness recaps. Yowza.)

Outlaws 42 - Sea Stags 35
I almost made this the GotW last week. Guess I should have. Poor Karl. He scored 34 two weeks ago - and lost. He scored 35 this week - and lost. What's a guy gotta do to compete around here? (begin subliminal draft a Ram end subliminal) Anyway, kudos to Outlaws for scoring a whole buncha points and bringing the Mel back home. Kudos also to Edgerrin James for his 3 TDR's, which made it possible. Karl had the Faulk and Vanderjagt show going. Faulk Jr and his TDR were on the bench, but it didn't matter in the end. Outlaws go to 5-2 and stay ahead of TWC and EGO in TOBE, while Sea Stags fall to 2-4-1 and stay out of the LRMS cellar only because they've outscored LW4 this season. UFFL FUN FACT: Sea Stags have lost the last three Mel games in a row! Good news for TWC, their next opponent.

Rage 30 - MacBain's 69th Highlanders 18
I'll let the urn thing go this week. Rage takes out the Mighty Macs, but Al was not the only Greek to bring game this week. Smith and Wheatley got some good RB points and helped keep it somewhat close. Joe V gets the classic Joe V game, low point totals, but lots of them. The win takes Rage to 4-3 and the top of the LRMS heap - a dangerous place to be this year. It's that rampantly running parity thing again, you know? They get Renegade Rebels next week in revival of a classic UFFL rivalry. Rod gets the Mavs in the Battle of Imaginations - you see, Rod has an active imagination, while Brett's the figment of one - whoo hoo!

Renegade Rebels 40 - Bake-O's 20
Renegade Rebels rise up and hang 40 on the suddenly Carolina-bereft Shims, who take advantage of the loss to fall into the TOBE cellar. Looking like the Rebs of old (except that there are WR's in the lineup instead of Barry Sanders), Carrier goes to 4-3 and keeps pace with the Blur. Curtis Martin leads the way for the Rebs with his 3 TDR's, while Jason "No, really, I'm ok" Elam supplied most of the Bake-O yeast. And I don't mean Craig Yeast, either. Watch out for a clash between bottom feeders in Week Eight as Bake-O's take on Iron Men. Renegade Rebels get Rage. They'll want those 40 points again, I think.

Seattle Blur 23 - Munchen Mavericks 10
Seattle Blur get back on the winning side with a fairly easy win over the Mavs. The big picture, though, is a little cloudy; Jeff Wilkins, get well soon. Warner takes over the league scoring lead again, but barely, over Matt Stover as Wilkins may have put himself out of contention with the injury. Can Jason Hanson kick up the slack? We shall see. Actually, as long as Cade McNown doesn't have to play again all should be ok in Seattle. Not the greatest game of the season for the Blur, but with David Boston and Mike Hollis on the Mav bench, it didn't have to be. The Mavs slip out of the LRMS lead but look to get well next week vs. the Rowdy Scots. Which reminds me, have you heard the "Scotsman Song"? Very funny stuff.

The Windmilling Chaos 42 - Lethal Weapon 4 25
TWC scores 40+ for the first time since Week 4, 1992 (the heyday of Mel Gray himself) and defuse the Weapon. Points from six starters, including (drumroll) BOTH RB's (GASP!), lead the heretofore RB-deficient Chaos to the victory and keep them hard on the heels of Outlaws at 4-3 in TOBE. The Weapon get the UFFL season's first +50 TDR from Robert Smith and a solid game up top, but the decision to start Peyton Manning over Jeff Garcia proves, if not fateful, at least somewhat annoying - I mean, if Garcia had started, this game could have had the Mel! Dag, Ted, you know how long it's been since I was in a Mel game? (answer: five weeks) UFFL FUN FACT #2: TWC is the only UFFL team never to win a Mel game (0-5 lifetime) - a good thing Sea Stags are next up on the schedule...
